A new Leader for a new era

9.51.12pm GMT Tue 28th Feb 2006

Local Liberal Democrat party members have cast their votes in the election for their new Leader and now await the announcement of the result.

All three candidates sent good wishes to Lyneham by-election candidate, John Webb.

Acting Leader, Sir Ming Campbell MP called John personally on voting day while another "good luck" message came from the Office of the Party President Simon Hughes MP. Chris Huhne MP had already spoken to John to wish him well during his recent visit to Chippenham.

The result of the Leadership ballot is expected to be announced on 3rd March and it is thought likely that the new Lib Dem Leader will visit the area soon after his appointment.
