"Tory Nuisance Calls Must Stop Now!" says Fox.10.56.14pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 13th Apr 2005 Commenting on reports that the Tories have been cold calling North Wiltshire constituents that are registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate Paul Fox said: "It is outrageous that the Tories are abusing the Telephone Preference Service which people sign up to specifically to avoid being subject to such cold calling tactics in this way. We Liberal Democrats have made a conscious effort to avoid calling people registered with TPS and to this end we have identified those constituents on our records that are signed up to TPS." "It is clear that the Tories have no respect for people's right to privacy as TPS records are not difficult to access and are available to everyone. The Liberal Democrats have a national campaign that was launched in February to stop abuse of people's telephones by both Labour and the Tories. We even have a website, www.stopnuisancecalls.com, set up to help people to complain about such practices and penalise those that take part in them." "We would be pleased to hear from any North Wiltshire constituents who have been bothered by such calls and hope that the Tories will show more respect for people's privacy in future."
