"Anyone who wants to pass laws in this country should pay this country's full taxes and not hide behind the special offshore status of non-doms. Non-doms have to tell the taxman that their first allegiance is to another country. No-one should be a British lawmaker whose first allegiance is not to Britain. "
Chris Huhne, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary

"I think people are entitled to expect a sensible, stable government at a time when the country is facing very, very acute choices. We take what the markets are worrying about immensely seriously. We will not take any risk with the creditworthiness of the economy. "
Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats
Financial Times - 3 March

We're about Freedom, Fairness, Trust and a Greener Britain.
Liberalism means a freer Britain, one in which people and communities are able to exercise
real political power on their own behalf. It means a fairer Britain, where people are not
excluded by a lack of income or wealth or opportunity. And it means a greener Britain, where
the environment is valued and protected. It means a country built on trust in its citizens.
Our intention is that this website will be a useful resource for local people to find out more about the local Liberal Democrats and the campaigns we are running.
However, we would like it to be more than that - we would like to hear from you. Online you can:
Lib Dems win again in Calne Lickhill
Sun 24th Jan 2010
Michelle Pearce was elected to Calne Town Council in the by-election on 21 January with a stunning 81% of the votes cast, beating her UKIP opponent by 331 votes to 79. The Conservatives failed to put up a candidate for the seat they won in 2007. Michelle's is the third victory in two years in Calne Lickhill. She joins Glenis Ansell and Chris Dobbie representing the ward for the Liberal Democrats. Commenting on her win, would-be Lib Dem MP Mike Evemy said 'It's a great boost for the Lib Dems in Calne just months before the General Election.'

Successful Annual Dinner in Calne
Sun 22nd Nov 2009
Liberal Democrats in North Wiltshire are in great heart following their annual fundraising dinner in Calne Town Hall this week (Saturday 21 November). Following an excellent meal prepared by local caterers Andrew and Frances Evans, they heard from the Prospective MP Mike Evemy and Graham Watson, MEP for the South West and Gibraltar. Mike talked about his plans to unseat James Gray at the forthcoming general election whilst Graham focused on recent events in Europe including Conservative MEPs leaving the centre-right mainstream and the appointments of the Council President and High Representative.
